School Closed Thursday, January 18th

Abbeville County School District will be closed on Thursday, January 18 for students and employees. The National Weather Service forecasts frigid temperatures overnight that will refreeze the moisture on the roads, especially the secondary roads. Temperatures will not rise above freezing until around 10:30 A.M. making roads unsafe for travel. Abbeville County School District puts the safety of our students and employees first.


School Closed Wednesday, January 17th

Abbeville County School District will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17 for all students and staff. Based on weather reports from the National Weather Service and information from Emergency Management Services, Abbeville County has been included in the Winter Weather Advisory for Wednesday morning. Rain, ice, and snow are expected to accumulate during the early morning hours with temperatures not expected to rise above freezing until around noon. Stay safe and stay tuned in for additional weather statements that may become necessary.

Public Pathways Presentation and Steering Committee Meetings Scheduled

There will be a Special Called Board Meeting on January 8th at 6:00 p.m. for a Public Pathways Presentation, District Board Room, 400 Greenville St., Abbeville S.C.

Also, there will be a Public Pathways Steering Committee Meeting on Tuesday, January 9th at 11:30 a.m. at Dixie High School.

The Giving Season

Mrs. Eaves' second grade class bought and wrapped gifts for a special child this Christmas. The children enjoyed giving this holiday season.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

The teachers at John C. Calhoun Elementary wore their ugly/gaudy Christmas sweaters to school on December 19, 2017. Teachers were encouraged to wear specific types of clothing for the last few days before the holidays  to add a little fun for our students.  On Monday teachers wore vests and on Wednesday they wore plaid/flannel shirts.


Clemson Tiger Mascot Visits JCCE

The Clemson Tiger Mascot visited John C Calhoun Elementary. John  C Calhoun Elementary was visited by the Clemson Tiger Mascot on December 19, 2017 to encourage students to do their best at school.  The “Dreams With Open Arms” organization (a Calhoun Falls business group) sponsored this event and was represented as well at the school.  JCCE is thankful to our local businesses for their support of our school and students.

 
 
 
 
 
 

WWES Donates to Angel Tree

Students at Westwood raised $683.00 to support the Christmas Angel Tree Project and children in the local area. Mrs. Wright and Mrs. McCier counted and rolled the coins for Westwood.

CTES 4th Graders Participate in the Nationwide Hour of Code

On Dec. 5, 2017, seventy-three fourth graders learned how to program a Minecraft simulation using computer coding.  Several students explained that this project has interested them in computer technology as a career.  Mrs. Jennifer Hines, fourth grade science teacher, organized this event and invited Due West Mayor Charles Angel to volunteer in assisting students.  Angel and his son are active in the Due West Robotics and Rocketry clubs.
