Abbeville School District Names State Deputy Superintendent as

Chief Administrative Officer

 

Abbeville, SC –Current South Carolina Department of Education Deputy Superintendent for College and Career Readiness, Dr. Julie Fowler, has been named Chief Administrative Officer for the Abbeville County School District.

 

“Dr. Fowler has been an invaluable asset to the students and educators of our state during my term in office,” said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman. “While her leadership at the Department will be greatly missed, I know that she will have a tremendous positive impact on the Abbeville County community.”

 

In her role at the South Carolina Department of Education, Dr. Fowler oversaw the operations of five high profile offices including the Office of Standards and Learning, Office of Special Education Services, Office of Career and Technical Education, and the country’s fifth largest state sponsored virtual school, VirtualSC. Since being appointed by State Superintendent Spearman in 2015, Dr. Fowler has overseen the creation of the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards, revision of the state’s Uniform Grading Policy, the development of Diploma Pathways and the Employability Credential, and the continued implementation of the Read to Succeed Act. 

 

As Chief Administrative Officer in the Abbeville County School District, Dr. Fowler will serve under district Superintendent Dr. Betty Jo Hall and will oversee the Departments of Human Resources, Child Nutrition, and Curriculum/Instruction.  Dr. Fowler will also serve as the district’s Public Information Officer. 


Dr. Betty Jo Hall, Superintendent, shared “we are excited for the students and staff of Abbeville County School District to have an individual with Dr. Fowler’s experience, knowledge, and passion for public education as a part of the Abbeville County School District Team!  We look forward to her joining in our continued goal of putting students first.”

 

Dr. Fowler holds both a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Special Education from Winthrop University where she currently serves on the Board of Trustees. She also received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Clemson University. Prior to becoming Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Fowler was Assistant Superintendent in the Greenwood 51 School District.

 

I am excited about being a part of the Abbeville County School District (ACSD) family,” said Dr. Fowler. “The ACSD is steeped in tradition and has a rich history of excellence, leadership, student achievement, and athletics. I look forward to joining the ACSD team and working to ensure our students graduate prepared for success.”

 

According to Dr. Hall, “we are working on a transition plan to get Dr. Fowler on board with us by the Thanksgiving break.”  Dr. Fowler is married to Jimmy Fowler, a banker with Countybank, and has two grown children (Trey) and Sidney Ann.
