Abbeville County School District is encouraging parents to dress their students in
warm clothing with the threat of frigid conditions Thursday, January 8th.
According to the National Weather Service and Duke Energy officials, our area will
experience an arctic cold front bring bitterly cold conditions to our area at 12:00 AM
Wednesday night until 9:00 AM Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to
dip into the low teens Wednesday night and wind gusts will be up to 30 miles per
hour. Frostbite can occur in as little as fifteen minutes on exposed skin.
Parents are encouraged to make sure students dress with extra warm clothing as we
prepare for this inclement weather. Suggestions include, but are not limited to:

 A hat that covers the ears.
 A scarf or knit mask to cover the face and mouth.
 Sleeves that are snug at the wrist.
 Mittens, which keep hands warmer than gloves.
 Water-resistant coat and boots.
 Several layers of thick, loose-fitting clothing, which allow warm air to become
trapped between the layers. This also allows for layers to be removed if your
child becomes too warm.

Bus drivers will take extra precaution as they pick up students for school. Parents
should be aware that some buses may be delayed a few minutes Thursday morning
due to the inclement conditions.
